I know I’m not alone in my love of a good project or activity for friend hangouts. One thing I love about watching documentaries with friends, especially as an introvert, is that it’s a great way to skip fluffy chitchat and go straight to deep, meaningful conversation. If you’re looking for something fun to do remotely, it’s totally possible to a virtual Pop 'n' Doc with a friend—handy for pandemic times and long-distance friendships.
Here's how to have a fun and successful Pop 'n' Doc:
- With your friend, browse the docs featured on Docuvist. Find something that appeals to both of you that you can stream on your respective tech set-ups. For free services with commercials, we recommend streaming from the same platform so you can stay in sync with each other.
- Choose a date and time that you are both available to watch a documentary. If you like to talk during movies, decide on a chat tool so you can text throughout and make sure it’s installed, the app is up to date, and you know your login.
- Now, the most important thing—snacks! If you need some inspiration, check out our these recipes 😜
- Alright, it’s finally time to start watching the film. Queue it up, baby!
- Call each other and do a countdown to pressing play.
- Text each other your reactions in real time, bathroom breaks, snack refills, etc.
- Go to the film page on Docuvist and scroll to the “What Now” section. Discuss the film together using the questions provided as a conversation starter.
- Check out the "Take Action" section and talk about how you want to make a difference in a meaningful way.
- Then have fun geeking out on the podcasts, videos, and articles we have linked in the "Listen", "Watch", and "Read" sections. Usually we like to leisurely browse these sources for a couple of days while digesting and processing the film, but feel free to binge all of it at once.
- Tell your friends about Docuvist and the film you just watched and make plans for your next Pop 'n' Doc movie night!
